Shoji Kawamori’s Latest Theatrical Anime “Meikyu no Shiori” to Premiere on January 1, 2026!

The latest theatrical animation “Meikyu no Shiori” will be released on January 1, 2026.
“Meikyu no Shiori” is the first original feature-length theatrical film by Shoji Kawamori, who has created and directed many television animation works such as the Macross series and the Aquarion series.
According to Kawamori, the story was conceived from the idea of considering the smartphone, which everyone today uses, as “another self” that accumulates histories and personal information. Character designer Risa Ebata, who worked with Kawamori on Macross Frontier, created the appealing characters.
The film depicts a double protagonist story: Shiori, who becomes trapped in the labyrinth of a smartphone, and SHIORI, her “other self,” who begins to go out of control in real-life Yokohama. Moving back and forth between the “other world of the heart” and the real world, the story develops into an entertainment work that includes songs, horror, explosive emotions, and even flying stickers.
When a smartphone breaks, it may mean that one’s heart is breaking as well.
