AIBO ‘ERS-220’
The entertainment robot AIBO ERS-220 (Sony Marketing Inc.) is capable of communicating with people through a wide range of expressive capabilities.
Its design emphasizes a robot-like notion inspired by a ""planetary exploration"" theme.
Its entire body is covered with 19 LED lamps, which light up whenever it moves or displays its expressions. The head is equipped with nine lamps (six on the side of the face and three on the front), glowing red and blue. In order to underline the robot-like nature of the model, biomorphic elements such as a mouth and eyes were eliminated as much as possible. The head is further fitted with a touch sensor in the form of an antenna. Additionally, it features retractable headlights that can be popped up to illuminate the surroundings.

Concept roughThe original idea was to create an AIBO with reconfigurable parts. Kawamori proposed a dinosaur-shaped AIBO that could transform into an egg when switched into a charging mode.

Color illustrationAs a concept, ERS-220 would look like a reconnaissance robot dispatched to Earth by extraterrestrials to investigate the human race.
